Dear Friends,
Welcome to St Philip's on this Sunday morning for our Eucharist. We have come already to the Second Sunday in Lent. So we are making our way through the season… and I still haven't had any chocolate!
It was good to see so many people come to help at the working bee yesterday week. A lot of tasks were achieved and much cleaning up. Thank you to all who participated, and especially to Ben for organising it.
I want also to express appreciation to everyone who came to the parish's Annual Meeting last Sunday and to all who produced the many reports. They reflect a great deal, and much variety, of ministry in which people are involved — and that is very encouraging. As I said at the meeting — but may I also express it here — we are all very grateful to those who served as Churchwardens and members of the Parish Council last year. However, I particularly want to thank those who are not continuing in those roles: James, who was the Rector's Warden in what turned out to be a very stressful and sorrowful year; Doreen who served as one of the Wardens and Fiona who was the secretary of the Council. I personally am very grateful for all they did and for the support they offered me.
The Parish Council for the coming twelve months will be:
Wardens: Ruth Mann, Denise Manly and Roger Sharp
Councillors: Sally Adams, Fred Anchell, Ian Cousins and Shane Woodburn (elected); Pat Forbes and Tim Gowty (appointed).
The first meeting of the new Parish Council will be tomorrow evening at 7.30, and next Sunday morning I would like to have a commissioning in which we also pray for them in their ministry during the year ahead.
Every blessing to you for the week ahead,
Ray
