Dear Friends,

I offer you a very warm welcome to St Philip's this morning for our Sunday Eucharist as we celebrate the Twenty-Fourth Sunday after Pentecost. Thank you for being with us.

Today, the scripture readings ask us to reflect on what it means to live in the promise of love, as we hear, in the Gospel, of Jesus bringing together both love of God and love of neighbour.

There was a great deal of love being shown here last Monday as this parish community, along with many of Rob's family, friends and colleagues, gathered for the funeral, honouring and thanking God for Rob's life and ministry. It was a wonderful tribute to him, a heart-felt expression of respect and affection for him, and a profound manifestation of the deep love that is present here in this faith community. I am very grateful to all who did so much to make it such a wonderful celebration of Rob's life.

Next Friday, the diocesan Synod is to begin its meeting in Goulburn for the election of the next Bishop of this diocese. Please pray for all members of the synod, that through their meeting together they may be blessed and guided in discerning God's Spirit in all they say and do.

When we gather next Sunday, we will be celebrating All Saints' Day, though also with an observance of All Souls. In preparation for that observance, you are invited to give the names of departed loved ones and friends whom you would wish to be remembered during our Eucharist next Sunday.

Every blessing to you for the week ahead,
Ray Williamson

News from the Presentation Board
Following Rob's passing away, some of you may be wondering what happens next in relation to the appointment of a new rector?

At the AGM earlier this year, the Parish elected Denise Manley, Ian Cousins and Chris Cheah as our clergy appointment representatives ('Presentation Board'). It is our responsibility to interact with the Diocese about the appointment of a new rector and to represent the Parish's interests.

We have made initial informal contact with Bishop Allan and with our Archdeacon Sarah McNeil. Allan and Sarah think that, for a range of reasons, the most practical time to start the formal Diocesan selection process for a new rector for St Philip's is probably around February next year.

We think this is positive for us too, as it gives us time to come to terms with Rob's death. It also gives us time to think and pray as a Parish about our future, before we start talking to the Diocese in earnest. Over the coming few weeks, we propose to talk with the Church Wardens and with Parish Council about what might be the best way of enabling our community to focus on these things. In the interim please feel free to talk at any time with any one of us individually about any thoughts or issues you might have. We want and need you to do this. We will keep letting you know about developments in the pewsheet.

Ray Williamson has indicated that (apart from a three week absence in February) he is both available and willing to continue as a locum here at St Philip's for the time being. Thank you Ray — you are a blessing to us during this difficult time for our Parish!

Love in Christ — Denise, Ian and Chris
