Dear Friends,
May I offer you a very warm welcome to St Philip’s this morning for our Sunday Eucharist as we celebrate the Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost. Thank you for being with us.
By the time you read this on Sunday morning we will already have celebrated a very special occasion — the wedding of Jeannette McHugh and Terry Bell. I am sure it will have been very splendid indeed — a lovely celebration not only for Jeannette and Terry but also for all who attended, especially their friends here at St Philip’s. We wish them every happiness and blessing for their future together.
I want to remind you about the awareness programme, Keeping Children Safe — which is a diocesan programme for creating safe places and keeping children safe in our churches. It is necessary for clergy, church wardens and everyone else in the parish involved in working with children and young people to participate in the workshops that are offered.
If you have not already been a participant, then there is to be an Introductory Workshop here at St Philip’s on Saturday 8th November from 9.30am to 3.30pm. You are asked to bring a pen and your lunch. Please register with Brian McKinlay.
On the other hand, if you have already attended such a workshop, there is another one for you — a Refresher Workshop — on Thursday 6th November, from 6.30 to 9.30pm, at Holy Cross, Hackett.
As we all continue to think about Rob, our very deep concern and sadness about his health are very real. During last week, further examinations showed that the cancer is spreading and at this stage the chemotherapy has not been commenced. The oncologist plans to see Rob again on Wednesday for a further assessment. He continues to be cared for very well and is being kept quite comfortable.
Through all the acute complications he has had, Rob feels that he has been sustained by the prayers of so many, and he is very grateful to you all for those prayers, for your love and care. He and Sandy want us to continue that support, offering very affirmative prayers for him.
Let us hold him in prayer each day during this coming week.
Every blessing to you for the week ahead,
Ray Williamson
