Dinka (South Sudanese) Congregation

Leader: Daniel Duot Deng

St Philip's includes a Dinka language congregation that meets on Sundays at 1.00pm.

These Anglican services are largely in the Bor Dinka language of South Eastern Sudan.

Baptism 7 Aug 2011On Sunday 7 August 2011 there was special service to bless the new leadership of the Dinka language congregation and baptise children and babies. Holy Communion was celebrated the Revd Rebecca Newland preached on Take heart, Jesus is with you..

In the picture, Rebecca reassures a boy about to be baptised, while lay minister Brian, the boy's father, and Congregation Leader Daniel, at right, look on.

The Dinka congregation first gathered at St Philip's on Sunday 1 May 2011 (St Philip's Day!). Pentecost (12 June 2011) was an ideal occasion for a combined service, with hymns in Dinka and English, Bible readings in both languages and the sermon interpreted from English to Dinka. We joyfully gathered together at the Lord's Table and shared enriching fellowship.
